GetSafe Monitoring Plans Explained
GetSafe only offers one monitoring plan pricing, which includes 24/7 professional monitoring that uses broadband for communication with cellular backup. This plan will cost you $24.95/month. However, you have the option to sign a 1-year contract, 3-year contract, or no contract at all. Let's take a look at each option.
No-Contract Monitoring
If you're a renter, no-contract monitoring is likely the most appealing option. Without a contract, you can cancel the service anytime without being subjected to penalties. It's a pay-before-use service. If you pay the monthly fee this month, you'll get monitoring for the entire month; if you don't, you get nada.
The biggest catch with no-contract monitoring is that it has requires the highest upfront payment because you have to purchase the basic equipment package worth $249. This includes the GetSafe Smart Hub, a door/window sensor, a motion sensor, a siren, and two window stickers. If you buy the package and nothing more, the total upfront cost of getting started with GetSafe's no-contract monitoring is $278.95 (equipment + first month monitoring). However, the basic equipment package offers very little security coverage. If you buy additional equipment, the upfront price can shoot up even higher.
1-Year Contract
Opting for a 1-year contract will greatly bring down the upfront cost of owning a GetSafe security system. In exchange for committing to GetSafe's monitoring for 1 year, you get the basic equipment package for free, which brings down the required upfront payment to only $24.95 (first month monitoring). The upfront price will only increase if you purchase additional equipment.
Because you have an agreement with GetSafe, you can't cancel your monitoring service before the 1-year mark. Cancelling the service will subject you to penalties and will likely require you to buyout the equipment that was initially given to you for free. My advice is to take advantage of the 30-day risk free trial. Upon receiving the system, test all its features and decide if you like it or not. If you think it's not a good fit for you, return it within 30 days and get a full refund (minus the shipping fee). This way, you won't have to be stuck with a system you don't like for an entire year.
Once the 1-year contract ends, your contract with GetSafe will become month-to-month. It's up to you whether you want to continue paying for the service or cancel it.
3-Year Contract
Signing a 3-year contract with GetSafe will get you even more free equipment. Besides the basic equipment package, you'll receive a $250 credit that you can spend on any GetSafe equipment. This further brings down the cost of owning a GetSafe system as some of the additional devices you'll purchase will be covered by GetSafe.
A three-year contract is pretty long, so you have to be absolutely sure that you want GetSafe to monitor your home for that long. Again, you have 30 days to return the system if you don't like it, so be sure to take advantage of that.
Other Fees
GetSafe's monthly monitoring fee is fixed, but there are other fees that might be added to your account if you add certain features. These fees are optional and will only be added to your monthly bill is you explicitly request GetSafe to add them.
Medical Monitoring
Although GetSafe sometimes advertises medical monitoring as though it's a part of their security monitoring service, it's actually not. Medical monitoring requires a separate monthly subscription that will cost you $25/month.
If you purchase medical monitoring services, you have the option to pay monthly, quarterly, or semi-annually. The price is the same no matter what your payment term is. If you pay monthly, it's $25/month. If you pay quarterly, the fee is $75 paid every three months. If you choose semi-annual payments, the price is $150 paid every six months. That said, paying quarterly or semi-annually gives you freebies. If you make quarterly payments, you get free shipping on all medical monitoring equipment. If you go with the semi-annual option, you get free shipping plus a free wireless HD camera worth $99.
Video Storage
Adding a camera to your security system gives you access to a 30-day free trial of GetSafe's cloud video storage. After 30 days, you either have to pay $5.99/month per camera for continuous access to cloud storage or stop paying and use your camera's local storage. Paying for cloud subscription will give you 7 days of alert history. Every movement detected by the cameras are recorded by your camera will be stored in the cloud for 7 days. Cloud videos are available for viewing, download, and sharing.
If you don't pay for cloud storage, your camera can still record events, but locally. It requires that you add a microSD card to your camera. With local storage, you can still view recorded videos via the GetSafe Video app.

DIY Installation
GetSafe only offers self-installed security systems. It doesn't send out technicians for professional installation, so be ready to DIY. What GetSafe offers is high-quality customer support, which includes detailed how-to videos, articles, and FAQ sections. In case you need more help installing or troubleshooting your system, you can always contact GetSafe's customer support team.
Professional Monitoring
When GetSafe first launched, it offered both professional and self-monitoring options. In the past, customers could use GetSafe equipment to self-monitor their homes using the company’s alert features to watch over their homes. Previously, customers also had the option to use GetSafe as a local alarm, no subscription required.
Now, GetSafe only offers professional monitoring. You can't self-monitor your system nor use it as a local alarm. If you were a self-monitoring user of GetSafe equipment who wants to keep using the system, you must pay for professional monitoring. If you cancel your subscription, you'll end up with an expensive system that doesn't work.
Broadband Monitoring
Finally, GetSafe requires broadband monitoring, which means you need a high-speed internet connection in order to use the system. The system does have cellular backup so it continues to monitor your house even when the internet is down. However, the cellular chip remains what it is: a backup. You can't use it as your security system's dedicated communication method.
